The first 6-day vote enabled the global fan base to select their favorite to be automatically in the TOP20. The other 19 were selected by a panel of professional judges. A second vote "National Costume" was launched on the day before the final, immediately after the images were taken in the preliminary show.
Both votes were integrated on vote.missuniverse.com and shared on social media by Miss Universe, 90 national organizations and media partners. The vote was highly successful and engaged millions of people from over 200 counties. The voters were able to vote for free and buy premium voting packages to support their favorites. The fans were able to browse the contestant profiles with pictures and stories about the contestants from 90 countries.
